'Spurs fans did not want to hear that' - Pundit reacts as Levy stance on Kane sale revealed
Noel Whelan insisted Tottenham are on borrowed time with Harry Kane and expects the striker to leave the club if they do not invest this summer.
The former Leeds United forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested “the best all-round striker in the world” will only leave out of desperation to fulfill his ambition of winning trophies.
Kane said to Jamie Redknapp in an Instagram interview he would not stay at Spurs “for the sake of it” if he does not feel the team is improving year on year.
As revealed by Football Insider earlier today, Daniel Levy has no intention of selling their prize asset this summer.
When asked for his reaction to the England captain’s comments on his future, Whelan told Football Insider: “It is honest but I am sure a lot of Spurs fans did not want to hear that. But Spurs fans want the same thing as Harry Kane does which is trophies.
“They have become a nearly team and always faltered in cups over the years when they have had great opportunities.

“Kane is a winner and I like his honesty. If he does go it will be a Barcelona, a Real Madrid or a Manchester City. If it does happen they will make a lot of money from it but I know they do not want to lose the best all-round striker in the world. He will be able to fulfil his ambitions at these sorts of clubs.
“I think he wants to win at Tottenham but he can only stay for so long without winning trophies. Whether they finish in the Champions League spots and what they do in the summer will be crucial.”
Such claims do not bode well for Jose Mourinho with the Lilywhites currently seven points off fourth-placed Chelsea and Champions League qualification.
In other Tottenham news, Paul Robinson has told Football Insider teenager is “ready” to be handed major role under Jose Mourinho.
