‘Staggering’ – Andy Gray rips into Ruben Amorim live on air with Man United exit coming

Ruben Amorim’s job is hanging by a thread amid Man United’s poor form in the Premier League.

Man United were beaten 3-1 by Brentford on Saturday, 27 September, which was their second defeat in three top-flight outings.

The Old Trafford club are struggling once again after finishing just 15th in the Premier League last season, despite enjoying a busy summer transfer window.

Man United were beaten by League Two Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup in August, which epitomised their poor start to the campaign.

Ruben Amorim’s lack of progress at Man United is hard to believe

Amorim signed talented attackers like Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo in the summer transfer window, but the Old Trafford side have endured woeful form nonetheless.

Speaking about Amorim’s tenure live on beIN SPORTS ahead of Man United’s clash with Sunderland on Saturday, 4 October, Andy Gray said: “After 50 games, we should be seeing something. The fact that they are still languishing 14th in the league, and pretty much everything about United is flat at the minute.

To think that they’re going into a game this afternoon against a newly promoted side, at Old Trafford, and a lot of people are think they’re getting beaten. That’s a staggering thing to be thinking about Man United, after you’ve been coach for 50 games.

If you’ve been coach for 15 or 20 games, then it might be transitional. But 50 games in is a lot, and I think he knows.”

Sunderland clash could prove the final straw for Ruben Amorim

Amorim is under increasing sack pressure thanks to Man United’s shocking form, so another defeat against Sunderland on 4 October could spell the end of his Old Trafford tenure.

The North West side’s hierarchy will deem that losing to the newly-promoted Black Cats is unacceptable for the Red Devils, even though Regis Le Bris’ men have been a class act since returning to the Premier League.

Sunderland have enjoyed a four-game unbeaten run, including victories over Nottingham Forest and Brentford, and will head to Old Trafford full of confidence.

Contrastingly, Man United will feel deflated, having been defeated by rivals Manchester City, as well as Brentford, in two of their last three games.

Unless the Red Devils defeat the Black Cats, the conclusion of the Sunderland match could present itself as an opportunity for Jim Ratcliffe to sack Amorim, as the North West club can utilise the international break to find a new manager.
