Stan Collymore delivers two-word verdict after Tottenham defeat against Liverpool

By Amir Mir

Stan Collymore has stated that Tottenham looked “leggy” and “sluggish” during their 2-0 defeat against Liverpool on Saturday.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side suffered a major blow in their fight for the Premier League title with Sadio Mane scoring a brace.

The Senegal international scored two goals in two minutes as a usually strong and compact Spurs backline could not cope with his pace and power.

Prior to the game, the north London club were nine points behind current Premier League leaders Chelsea in the table as they had the chance of closing that gap.

However, after the defeat, this is what Collymore had to say on his radio phone-in about Spurs.

“I thought that his team were leggy,” said Collymore.  “They were sluggish, don’t know why, their preparations have been good, they’ve had no European football since been knocked out of the Champions League.”

Pochettino’s side have been strong on home soil this term, beating the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea, while picking up valuable points against Liverpool.

But, they were beaten at Manchester United, Liverpool, while dropping points against rivals Arsenal and Manchester City this term.

Despite that defeat, they still remain in second, but they could be overtaken by fifth-placed City on Monday night.

Pep Guardiola’s side take on Bournemouth at Dean Court, knowing a win would see them leapfrog three teams in the table.

Before that, leaders Chelsea will travel to Turf Moor to take on Burnley on Sunday afternoon, knowing a win would see them open up a 12 point lead with 13 games in the season remaining.

In other Tottenham news, Paul Merson has aimed a double dig at the club’s supporters.
