Stan Collymore delivers verdict on 15-goal striker reportedly close to Tottenham switch

By Derek Smithson

Stan Collymore believes that Swansea forward Fernando Llorente will be an excellent signing for Tottenham if they can wrap up a deal for him.

The Mail have reported on their transfer blog (11:41am, Thursday) that the Spanish striker is currently driving to Spurs to complete a move.

It is understood that the two Premier League clubs have “largely done” the deal as the 32-year-old looks set to become Spurs’ second signing of deadline day.

Mauricio Pocehttino has already welcomed defender Serge Aurier from Paris Saint-Germain and could now land a striker to back-up Harry Kane.

Collymore feels that Llorente would be a superb addition to the Spurs squad and give them some much-needed experience this season.

“Janssen out, Llorente in would add experience Tottenham need across the board this season,” Collymore wrote on his personal Twitter account.

Llorente is an experienced player that has won the World Cup, European Championships, Europa League and three Serie A titles during his career.

The forward endured a strong first season in English football last year and managed 15 goals in the Premier League for Swansea as they avoided relegation.

He is recognised as a target man that is physically strong, brilliant in the air and that has good technical ability too.

Spurs have been on the search for a forward to provide genuine competition to Kane as he can’t be relied upon across the whole campaign.

Llorente has vast experience in European football and he could play a big role in guiding them through a difficult group of Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Apoel Nicosia in the Champions League.

In other Tottenham transfer news, they have made a big decision on Marcus Edwards on deadline day.
