Stan Collymore has urged Aston Villa to go on a “confidence boosting” run after they beat Bristol City 2-0 on Tuesday night.

After a miserable start to the calendar year where they had picked up only one point, Steve Bruce has now guided his team to successive wins in the past four days.

The first three points came against promotion chasers Derby County on Saturday afternoon and they followed it up with a 2-0 win against the Robins on Tuesday, both at Villa Park.

Striker Jonathan Kodjia, who missed a first-half penalty against his former club, headed his side into the lead after the break with Conor Hourihane scoring the second.

After the win, former Premier League striker Collymore expressed his delight at Villa securing another three points.

“Well done Villa,” Collymore wrote on his personal Twitter account. “Let’s go on a confidence boosting run now please.”

On top of the two wins, Villa have also recorded back-to-back clean sheets, much to the relief of goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

The on-loan Manchester United shot-stopper, who joined the club in January, only secured his first clean sheet at the weekend and has now followed it up with another against Lee Johnson’s side.

As a result, Bruce’s men have moved up the Championship table and they are now in 15th place on 42 points from their 34 matches.

Much to the relief of Bruce, nine points separate his side and Blackburn who occupy the final relegation spot.
