Stan Collymore makes huge statement about Arsenal 24-year-old, identifies his three best qualities

By Harry Sykes

Stan Collymore has hailed Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi as “one of the signings of the season”.

The broadcaster and pundit made the huge statement during the Gunners’ 3-1 win over Stoke in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Mustafi started at the back alongside regular centre-back partner Laurent Koscielny but suffered a hamstring problem after 25 minutes and was replaced by fit-again Hector Bellerin.

The score was goalless in the clash at Emirates Stadium when Mustafi left the pitch and immediately afterwards Stoke took the lead through a Charlie Adam penalty.

But goals from Theo Walcott, Mesut Ozil and substitute Alex Iwobi sealed the three points for the second-placed team.

Germany international Mustafi, 24, was a late August signing for Arsenal when he became their second £30million-plus signing of the summer following Granit Xhaka.

Collymore took to his personal Twitter account on Saturday to pay tribute to Mustafi, as well as identify his three main qualities as being a “leader”, “uncompromising” and a “driving force” of Arsene Wenger’s side.

Mustafi has developed an increasingly formidable centre-back partnership with Koscielny in the absence of skipper Per Mertesacker, who has been absent all season with a knee injury.

The former La Liga defender has made 18 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions, starting each of those matches.
