Former Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore has paid a heartfelt tribute to club legend Stiliyan Petrov after he failed to land a playing contact.
The club’s official website announced on Wednesday evening that the ex-Villa captain will not be offered a playing contract, but has been given the opportunity to work with the Midlands club in a different capacity.
Former Villa played turned pundit, Collymore praised the ex-Bulgaria international for cementing his legendary status in the footballing world after a brave attempt to force his way into Roberto Di Matteo’s team for the upcoming season.
“Just want to say Stan Petrov that you’re my hero,” said Collymore on his personal Twitter account. “You’ve cemented yourself in the hearts of football fans around the world. Thank you! #UTV”

Ex-forward Collymore endured a disappointing time during his three-year period at Villa Park, scoring seven goals in 46 appearances for the club.
But, the former TalkSport pundit has been very vocal and passionate about the situation s at his former club.
