Stan Collymore predicts Leeds clash against Brighton, provides promotion verdict for Monk

By Amir Mir

Stan Collymore believes Brighton will beat Leeds 2-1 in their Championship clash at the Amex Stadium on Friday night.

Broadcaster Collymore also stated that the Yorkshire club will be “there or thereabouts” in their push for promotion this term.

Garry Monk’s side currently occupy a play-off spot and they could close the gap on second place Brighton to four points on Friday.

Former Liverpool striker Collymore provided his verdict on the mouth-watering fixture and he also gave his thoughts on Monk.

“Garry Monk after that victory last week against Aston Villa their confidence will be sky high,” said Collymore, as posted on his personal Twitter account.

“Winning lots of games Leeds United, getting lots of plaudits and rightly so under Garry Monk, who has done a cracking job. Leeds will be there or thereabouts in the top six.”

Former Premier League manager Monk took charge of the Yorkshire giants in the summer and he has since guided them to impressive victories.

They beat Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa at Elland Road last time out, meaning they have won five of their last six league fixtures, losing only to leaders Newcastle during that period.

Furthermore, the Whites also produced impressive displays in the EFL Cup, only to be knocked out by Premier League giants Liverpool during the quarter-final stages of the competition.

Striker Chris Wood has been a focal point to that success, with the New Zealand international scoring ten goals in 19 Championship games, including 13 in all competitions.

Fan favourite Pontus Jansson, who is on-loan from Torino, has also been a major part of their impressive run in form. His ability, desire and reading of the game at centre-back has seen his stature grow at the club.

In other Leeds news, these are the three reasons why the Whites must sign this 25-year-old in January.
