Stan Collymore slams PL clubs after Celtic demolish FC Astana

Outspoken pundit Stan Collymore has slammed Premier League clubs for not being able to compete in the Champions League despite their massive incomes after Celtic’s victory over FC Astana.

The Hoops absolutely demolished the Kazakhstan-based club on Wednesday evening at Parkhead with Scott Sinclair’s double alongside a James Forrest effort and two own goals resulting in a 5-0 victory for Brendan Rodgers’ men at the play-off stage of the qualification process.

The result follows a day after Liverpool could only manage a slender 2-1 victory in Germany over Hoffenheim and many Premier League clubs have faltered at the Champions League qualifying round, as well as the Europa League qualification stage.

Now, after Celtic’s victory, Collymore hit out at Premier League side’s via his personal Twitter account, stating that most can’t compete in Europe on a £300million income, while the Hoops can generating just £2million. He also specifically brought up West Ham’s failures in the Europa League qualifying rounds against Astra Giurgiu.

Celtic reached the Champions League group stage in the last campaign, but after being drawn against Barcelona, Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach they failed to win a single game, finishing bottom of the group with three draws and three losses.

Now, with qualification all but sealed for the Hoops they will be hoping for vast improvements in the new season.
