Stefan Borson: Barcelona owe Man City money after stunning Ferran Torres update
Manchester City are yet to receive all of their money for Ferran Torres despite selling him to Barcelona almost four years ago.
Torres joined Barcelona in January 2022 for £46.3million, including £8.4m in potential add-ons.
However, the Catalan club’s latest accounts have revealed they are yet to pay Man City all of the money for the transfer.
Barcelona also haven’t paid all of the money for Raphinha, who joined the La Liga side from Leeds United in July 2022 for an initial £49m, with up to £6m in potential add-ons.

Man City have agreed Ferran Torres deal
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Pep Guardiola’s side and Leeds have both sold the debt owed by Barcelona to a bank, ensuring they will receive it this year.
Raphinha has starred for Barcelona since making the move to Spain, while Torres has also become an important player for Hansi Flick.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “A lot of clubs are actually on that list. It’s quite interesting. Barcelona give quite a lot of detail in their accounts.
“You can see on an annual basis what the future payments look like in terms of who they owe going forward, so what transfer fees they owe and they actually break it down by player. Not a lot of teams do that.
“You can actually see player by player how the phasing of the installments has worked, and what’s interesting is twofold really. One is that probably most clubs on that list in terms of by total amount have decided to factor, which is how it’s described in their accounts, the receivable transfer fee from Barcelona, which means that the fee that they’re due to get from Barcelona in the next year.

“That applies to the fee that they’re due to get in the next year, and that’s particularly Raphinha, which is around about €40m (£34.9m) and Ferran Torres, which has been a very long-standing phased deal. I mean, the player moved nearly four years ago, and City still haven’t had the whole of the £55m, but they’ll finally get it in this financial year.
“Anyway, they’ve all factored it, which means that they’ve sold off the debt to a bank, the bank has given them the money, and the bank therefore has the right to receive from Barcelona.”
Raphinha missed Barcelona’s defeat against Real Madrid on Sunday (26 October) with a hamstring injury, while Torres started in the 2-1 loss at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Barcelona spending spree continues despite financial issues
Barcelona have continued to invest heavily in their squad despite their financial issues in recent years.
Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona on a season-long deal from Manchester United in the summer transfer window after Ruben Amorim made it clear he wasn’t in his plans.
The Spanish giants hold the option to buy the England international for around £30m next summer.

Rashford has enjoyed an impressive start to life with Flick’s side, having registered five goals and seven assists in 13 appearances.
The 27-year-old set up Barcelona’s goal in their defeat against Real Madrid, who have now built up a five-point lead at the top of La Liga.
