Stefan Borson blown away by ‘fabulous Everton development’
Everton could be worth double the £700million fee Dan Friedkin paid to buy the club if the game continues to grow over the next few years.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider he believes the takeover is a “fabulous” development for the club.
Football Insider revealed on 12 November The Friedkin Group (TFG) was on course to complete its takeover by the end of December.
Everton confirmed on Thursday the deal has now been completed at Goodison Park after receiving approval from the Premier League.
Friedkin, who also owns Roma, has acquired a 99.5 per cent stake in the club after bringing to an end Farhad Moshiri’s eight-year spell on Merseyside.
iNews reported on 19 December the American billionaire believes he has got an “absolutely astounding deal” in buying Everton for “south of £40million”.
Everton takeover is ‘fabulous’ development after deal confirmed
But Borson insisted the deal overall is worth far more than that figure.
He told Football Insider: “If you look at the essential spend of £700million plus maybe £100million on top for running costs over the next year or so, we are talking about a deal for £700-800million.
“I think that is an okay deal, but it’s not the bargain that’s been talked about. The £40million is really almost irrelevant in the context of what they paid.
“But clearly, if they can turn it into one of England’s major clubs, they are going to have an asset on their hands that’s worth double or more, particularly if the game grows in the way American investors believe it will.
“I think, overall, it’s exciting times for Everton and that really is where the focus should be.
“It should be less about what they have paid in terms of what a great deal Friedkin have done and more about what it means for Everton.

“I think it’s a fabulous development for the club. They have got a proper owner that has a good understanding of the game generally.
“They have made mistakes at Roma and, therefore, will be in a position to fix some of those things that they have got wrong before. I think it’s very positive.”
