Stefan Borson can’t believe government could now intervene and stop Man City

Man City and the Premier League have fought over the club’s 115 charges case and the league’s Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules so far this season.

A verdict on the club’s long-running 115 charges battle is due in the coming weeks after the case was originally brought two years ago.

Meanwhile, City have claimed victory as the APT rules were ruled null and void by an independent tribunal – who found them to be in violation of competition law.

The English champions brought the legal challenge after being prevented from signing lucrative new deals with Etihad Airways and First Abu Dhabi Bank.

Independent regulator unlikely to influence Man City APT case, says Borson

The Independent has now claimed (17 February) Premier League clubs are pushing government to offer more support amid fears that Man City’s legal challenges could eventually lead to “complete carnage”.

It is claimed those suggestions have come during talks over the introduction of an independent football regulator – which has cross-party support in the House of Commons.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider “First of all, the independent regulator is going to have a budget of about £10million per year.

“It’s not going to have the time to get involved in things like this.

“It isn’t in their remit, and it’s not going to work practically.

“There’s no reason an independent regulator would be better placed to handle such complex disputes, rather than a tribunal.

“I very much doubt that this will be anything to do with the regulator.

“I think it’s a bit of a red herring.”

Man City fans fume at ‘finished’ De Bruyne

As per Football Insider (23 February), Man City fans are convinced Kevin de Bruyne is “finished” at the top level after his performance against Liverpool.

City are working on a deal to sign De Bruyne’s replacement – with Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz a top target for Pep Guardiola’s side.

The Belgian’s contract at the Etihad is set to expire at the end of this season.
