Stefan Borson drops emphatic verdict on Newcastle appointing Jose Mourinho

Newcastle United are unlikely to appoint Jose Mourinho as their next manager after reports have suggested he’s keen on joining the club.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider it’s some time since the Portuguese boss has been at his best.

The Guardian reported on 8 November Mourinho is targeting the manager’s job at Newcastle if Eddie Howe leaves St James’ Park.

The 61-year-old has made clear his unhappiness with Turkish club Fenerbahce, while Howe has been at the centre of a rift with newly-appointed sporting director Paul Mitchell.

Mourinho has previously managed Chelsea, Man United and Tottenham in the Premier League.

Newcastle currently sit eighth in the table after recording two wins in recent weeks against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.

Jose Mourinho unlikely to land Newcastle job after recent exploits

Borson doesn’t believe Mourinho is likely to get another chance at a top Premier League club following his recent exploits.

“It sounds like nonsense to me,” Borson told Football Insider.

“First of all, I don’t see on what basis there is a job going at Newcastle.

“It seems like a fairly stable situation from the management’s perspective.

“They are bringing in a new CEO in any event and I just don’t think there would be anybody to have that meaningful conversation with.

“I think it’s unlikely that Mourinho would get another gig at a very top club in England.

“I think that ship has probably passed.

“There is only a certain number of top teams you can manage I think without it just being time for somebody new, and I think it’s some time since Mourinho was at his best.”
