Stefan Borson drops ‘enormous’ Alexander Isak exit claim as Newcastle agree deal

Newcastle United have agreed a big-money deal at St James’ Park as speculation continues around the future of Alexander Isak.

The Sweden international has been a top performer for the north-east giants since making his club-record £63million move from Real Sociedad in 2022.

The 25-year-old registered 27 goals and six assists in 42 appearances in the 2024-25 season, helping his side finish fifth in the Premier League and win the Carabao Cup.

Isak has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool following his impressive performances on Tyneside.

However, Newcastle are ready to begin talks over a new deal that would take the forward’s salary beyond £150,000 a week.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider he’s never believed the stories around Isak leaving St James’ Park as it would take an “enormous” fee to secure his signature.

Eddie Howe is looking to strengthen his attacking options this summer after his side qualified for the Champions League.

Newcastle have agreed a £55million deal to sign Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest.

The 23-year-old winger registered six goals and 12 assists in 43 appearances in the 2024-25 season.

Newcastle could trigger £150m signing spree

Borson revealed Newcastle could spend up to £150million on new signings this summer.

He told Football Insider: “They won’t be able to go crazy because they’re very conservative, and it’s very hard for them to find players they’re prepared to sell for profit.

“Of course, we know they’ve got two or three players they could sell for big profit. But why would they want to do that?

“I never ever believed the Isak sale situation. The fee would have to be so enormous to get him out of Newcastle.

“I just don’t believe anybody would do it and I think the window for Guimaraes went last season when City didn’t execute the clause.

“I think there was an expectation that they would, but they didn’t and I think that situation has now moved on, so I still think they’ll have limits.

“I think you’re probably looking at between £125-150million of gross spend. The first £55million of it seems to be going on Elanga.

“They are in a better position than historically, but they still have challenges.”

Newcastle plan to accept £80m Livramento offer

In terms of a potential exit, Football Insider revealed on 4 July Newcastle would accept an £80million offer for Tino Livramento following interest from Manchester City.

The England international is high on the list of targets at the Etihad Stadium as Pep Guardiola looks to bring in a new right-back this summer.

The 22-year-old started in 36 of his 45 appearances for Newcastle in the 2024-25 season.
