Stefan Borson drops ‘extraordinary’ reveal about Everton PSR case
It is “extraordinary” that the Premier League spent £5million last season on the PSR case against Everton.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the costs of Premier League cases is set to increase.
As reported by The Times, the Premier League spent £30million in 2023-24 fighting against its own clubs.
It included the cases against both Everton and Nottingham Forest with both clubs charged for breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules.
The Premier League is currently in the process of defending their commercial rules against Manchester City while Leicester City are also set for a hearing over PSR breaches.
Everton PSR case cost an ‘extraordinary’ £5million last season
Borson explained that legal costs will only rise with more complicated rules being introduced and insisted that the £5million spent on the Everton case is “extraordinary”.
“The Premier League are going to have to spend more and more as the rules get more complicated,” Borson told Football Insider.
“They are going to need bigger teams of people to deal with it.
“When teams breach the rules, those cases are going to be complex and costly.

“We have already seen in the relatively simple Everton case that they spend £5million – that is an extraordinary amount to spend on a PSR case.
“Compared to what general commercial litigation of that scale looks like, the numbers involved are very big and will get bigger.“
