Stefan Borson drops verdict on Man United agreeing ‘British record deal’ for Cole Palmer
Manchester United have been linked with a move to sign Chelsea star Cole Palmer.
Man United could have to replace Bruno Fernandes in the near future as questions continue to be asked about his future at Old Trafford.
Football Insider revealed on Sunday (1 February) Man United would have to make a Premier League record offer to sign Palmer due to his importance at Stamford Bridge.
The England international joined Chelsea from Manchester City for £42.5million in the summer of 2023.

Can Man United afford to sign Cole Palmer?
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Man United are not in a position to pay a British record fee to sign Palmer at this moment in time.
Liverpool broke the transfer record with the signing of Alexander Isak last summer, with the striker making the move to Anfield for £125m from Newcastle United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Man United potentially signing Palmer, Borson said: “It’s just not going to happen, is it? Why would Chelsea sell unless they were forced to?
“If they are, United are not in a position to do it. United are going through a period of austerity. It’s planned austerity, but they are looking to bring down their overall cost of the wage bill and the investment in the side.

“They’re looking to outperform that spend and Palmer wouldn’t fit within that. Palmer would probably be a British record. It would certainly be close to Isak if it happened, and his wages would be enormous, so I think it’s very unlikely.”
When Man United could agree Palmer deal
Borson suggested Palmer could join Man United in the four or five years, but he doesn’t expect it to happen any time soon.
“Why would Chelsea want to sell anyway?” said Borson.
“Clearly, if the player wants to leave, then that’s a different discussion, and that has been some of the hints.

“Apparently, he’s a United fan, so none of these things are impossible over the next four or five years, but I just don’t think it’s anywhere near likely in the next couple.”
Palmer has registered five goals and two assists in 15 appearances for Chelsea so far this season.
