Stefan Borson: Liverpool are well placed as £20m plans revealed

Liverpool are in a “sweet spot” after recently performing well on the pitch and in the transfer market.

Liverpool secured a last-gasp victory over Burnley on Sunday (14 September) following Mohamed Salah’s injury-time penalty.

Arne Slot’s side’s 1-0 victory at Turf Moor maintained their winning start to the season and their three-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Meanwhile, The Athletic reported on 4 September Liverpool are embarking on a £20million redevelopment of their academy.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Liverpool are looking to capitalise on every area at this moment in time.

Liverpool are ‘winning in the transfer market’ after latest deals

Liverpool sold academy product Ben Gannon Doak to Bournemouth in the summer transfer window, with the deal worth up to £25m.

Elsewhere, Tyler Morton left Anfield for Lyon in a £13m deal, having also come through the Reds’ academy.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “The whole academy thing looks great on paper.

“There are a lot of costs that people forget about in terms of generating high-quality players.

“All of the clubs understand the dynamics in a similar way, right? So, they’re all trying to achieve the same things.

“Liverpool are in a sweet spot I think right now. Everything’s going well for them. They’re winning in the transfer market. They’re winning on the field. They look very polished right now.

“They’re trying to capitalise on that in every area, and so they should. That’s what a well-oiled organisation looks like, so it doesn’t surprise me.

“But I don’t think it’s as straightforward as everybody seems to think with the academies.

“A lot of academies are spending a lot of money and not really delivering any players, so it’s still very hard, it’s still very challenging, and there’s still a lot of competition for players.”

Slot’s side are looking to retain their title after being crowned Premier League champions last season.

Liverpool trigger £400m+ signing spree
