Stefan Borson: Man City to agree Phil Foden deal soon

Phil Foden appears to be back to his best following several impressive performances for Manchester City this season.

Foden scored in Man City’s 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday (14 December), taking his goal tally to 10 for the campaign in 21 appearances.

It is believed Foden is close to signing a new long-term deal at Man City, with his current contract set to expire in June 2027.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider Foden could become Man City’s second-highest paid player behind Erling Haaland if he agrees a new deal at the Etihad Stadium.

Haaland reportedly earns around £500,000 a week after extending his contract with Pep Guardiola’s side to 2034 earlier this year.

Phil Foden deal ‘critical’ after Man City form

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider it’s “critical” Foden agrees a new deal at the Etihad following his recent form.

It is believed Man City have been in talks with Foden about extending his contract since the opening weeks of this campaign.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider about how much a new contract could be worth for Foden, Borson said: “I mean, I suspect he earns very well right now.

“I would think he will probably be in the top five already, so I think that will just solidify his position within that hierarchy.

“It’s critical when he’s playing back to this sort of level that he’s re-signed, and I’m sure that will happen.”

Foden key to Man City’s Premier League title push

Foden struggled to make an impact in the opening weeks of this campaign, but he has found his feet over the past couple of months.

The England international has registered six goals in his past four Premier League games as Man City once again battle it out for the title.

Guardiola’s side are just two points behind Arsenal after claiming four league victories in a row following their impressive win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Man City are set to take on Brentford in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday (17 December), while their next Premier League fixture sees them take on West Ham on Saturday (20 December).
