Stefan Borson reacts to surprise Newcastle transfer news – ‘I’d be amazed’
Newcastle United are not facing any cash-flow issues despite the drama surrounding unpaid agents’ fees at St James’ Park.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider he would be “amazed” if it was a sign of any financial concerns for the Tyneside club.
The Athletic‘s David Ornstein revealed on 20 December agents of multiple Newcastle players have been “left in the dark” after fees owed to them were not paid on time by the club.
The article claims “commission instalments” were due in September but were not paid, with “no explanation provided as to what is happening or when it will be resolved”.
It was also claimed that image-rights payments to top squad members were delayed in a similar manner, but that situation has since been rectified.
Newcastle’s Saudi-backed ownership have struggled to make their substantial wealth pay on the pitch since taking over in 2021 after the Premier League’s financial rules have restricted the influx of cash at St James’ Park.
Newcastle have no financial concerns after agent fees drama
Borson insisted the unpaid agents’ fees will end up being “something of nothing” for the club.
“I would be amazed if that was a sign of anything at all,” Borson told Football Insider.
“That’s not a PSR issue.
“It’s not an issue of whether you can move things around.
“This will just be a contractual payment, so it’s a cash-flow issue.

“The one thing that Newcastle seem to not have any issues with is cash flow given who the ownership is.
“I think it will just end up being something of nothing.”
