Stefan Borson reveals what Champions League, Europa League and Conference League are really worth to Man United
Michael Carrick is looking to help Manchester United secure a return to European football after being appointed as interim manager.
It was confirmed last week Man United have sacked Ruben Amorim following disagreements behind the scenes at Old Trafford.
Football Insider revealed on 8 January Man United’s next permanent manager could face an immediate transfer blow if the club fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.
While Carrick has been appointed as interim boss until the end of the season, Old Trafford chiefs are considering their options for Amorim’s long-term replacement.
In their latest Premier League outing, Man United drew 2-2 against struggling Burnley, leaving them sitting seventh in the top-flight table.

How much is each European competition worth to Man United
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider qualifying for the Europa League or Conference League would be worth far less to Man United.
The 20-time English champions have no European football this season, leaving a significant hole in their accounts.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the financial rewards of Man United qualifying for Europe, Borson said: “Look, it’s a complete game changer for the club. Europe’s got three different levels.
“You’ve got the Conference League, where it doesn’t make much difference at all. If you win it, maybe it brings in a total of £20million, but you’ve got a whole load of costs against that. It’s pretty neutral really, but it’s quite nice to win, and it gives you a lot more home games in the season.

“Then you’ve got the Europa League, where you maybe get £40m if you win it. There’s a bit higher prestige, but it’s a bit more of a challenge, it stretches the squad with those Thursday and Sunday games.
“Then you’ve got the game changer, which is the Champions League, where it’s worth a lot more.”
How Man United could land £100m windfall
Borson revealed Man United could earn up to £100m from competing in the Champions League, providing their financial situation with a major boost.
“For a club like Manchester United, the Champions League is probably worth £80-100m,” said Borson.
“I’m not talking about winning it, I’m talking about getting into let’s say the round of 16 is £80-100m.

“You’ve clearly got yourself probably five home games at worst, because either you’re in the round of 16 or you’re in the play-off, so that’s at least five home games.”
Man United generate the second-highest revenue in the Premier League after their turnover increased from £661.8m in 2023-24 to £666.5m last season.
