Stefan Borson shares ‘incredible’ Chelsea reveal in new twist
Chelsea are unlikely to find the local council accommodating in their bid to redevelop Stamford Bridge.
That is the view of financial expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that Chelsea are unlikely to be met with the same open arms that Man United have by their local council.
The Premier League giants have been discussing the prospect of a new stadium for some time, whether in the form of an expansion to Stamford Bridge or building a brand-new stadium elsewhere.
The club have previously considered sites at Battersea and Earl’s Court in the past as potential locations for a stadium.
Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital want to increase the home capacity from the current 48,000 to 60,000 to bring in more revenue.
Chelsea could face issues with the council over stadium redevelopment plans
“One of the benefits that Chelsea has is that they set within the premiere part of London, Chelsea,” Borson told Football Insider.
“The land there is incredibly expensive, but the flipside of that is that to redevelop it, you have a lot of extra costs that you wouldn’t have in any other part of the country.
“It’s swings and roundabouts when it comes to stadium redevelopment.
“The other aspect of it is I doubt they will find the local councils as accommodating as the Trafford council for Manchester United.
“United’s stadium is in a largely industrial zone of Trafford in Manchester, and they are welcomed with open arms by the Trafford council.
“I doubt it’s going to be the same for Chelsea in Chelsea and Kensington.
“These are big projects that will need alignment from the shareholders because ultimately they have to write cheques.”
