Stefan Borson shares instant reaction to Leeds ticket price hike

Leeds United fans have been left frustrated by the club’s ticket price hike as they wait to see whether Premier League football will return to Elland Road next season.

The Yorkshire giants have confirmed their season ticket prices for the 2024-25 campaign, with some adult rates rising by up to 14 per cent.

If Leeds remain in the Championship next season, an adult ticket will increase from a starting point of £18.87 per game to £21.52 for the 23 matches.

Meanwhile, a return to the Premier League will see prices rise to £26.05 per game for the 19 fixtures, with the lowest-priced adult season ticket increasing from £434 this season to £495.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider it’s “surprising” clubs announce their season ticket prices before knowing which division they will be playing in the following season.

Daniel Farke’s side currently sit second in the Championship table, but they are level on points with third-place Burnley heading into the final seven games of the campaign.

Leeds could land Premier League blow

Borson suggested Leeds could struggle if they return to the Premier League after several promoted sides have been relegated in recent years.

He told Football Insider: “They have got American owners, who are going to be pretty focused on ticket prices.

“It is sometimes surprising that teams do it before they know which division they’re in because it looks quite different paying quite a lot more for the Championship if you just missed out on promotion versus if it is a Premier League season ticket, notwithstanding the fact that you get more games in the Championship.

“You have to remember that the likelihood is that next season will be a difficult season for them if they are promoted, so you have that combination of selling quite expensive tickets.

“Having quite expensive season tickets and not being able to back that with transfer market spend because of PSR, which therefore means that you’re still in the bottom half of the table and you’re selling tickets for games that aren’t necessarily that exciting.

“Most of the teams that are promoted do struggle in that first season back and most of them have got relegated.

“It does look quite tricky to charge extra in that scenario, but what can you do?”.

Kalvin Phillips pushing for sensational Leeds move

Football Insider revealed on 17 March Kalvin Phillips is pushing for a return to Leeds as he no longer has a future at Manchester City.

The 29-year-old, who left Elland Road for the Premier League champions in 2022, has made just six starts under Pep Guardiola and spent time on loan at West Ham and Ipswich Town.

Man City are willing to take a substantial loss on the £45million they paid Leeds to sign the midfielder three years ago.
