Stefan Borson suggests how many Bayern games Nicolas Jackson must play for deal to become permanent

Chelsea fans are “surprised” about the terms of the deal Bayern Munich agreed to sign Nicolas Jackson on loan.

Jackson completed his move to Bayern Munich before the end of the summer transfer window.

The Bundesliga champions agreed to pay a £14.3million loan fee for the 24-year-old, with a £56.2million obligation-to-buy clause included in the deal depending on appearances.

However, Bayern Munich’s honorary chief Uli Hoeness has revealed Jackson’s switch would “never become permanent” due to the terms of the loan deal.

Appearing on German TV channel Sport1 on Sunday (7 September), he admitted Jackson has to start 40 games for the German club this season for the obligation clause to be triggered.

Bayern Munich to make Nicolas Jackson transfer decision

This article contains exclusive comment from Stefan Borson, a former financial adviser to Man City.

Chelsea signed Jackson from Villarreal in a £32million deal in 2023.

However, the Senegal international was relatively inconsistent during his time at Stamford Bridge, having registered 30 goals and 12 assists in 81 appearances.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider before Hoeness’s admission, Borson said: “Look, it depends on what the obligation is, right?

“Because if he’s got to play 40 games, let’s say, before the obligation crystallises, then really Chelsea have simply got a very big loan fee for a season of Nicolas Jackson.

“If it’s 40 games, then Bayern Munich effectively control what happens. Because you’d think he’s going to play 20 come what may, but he’s only going to play 40 if the manager really rates him, they really want him and they don’t mind triggering the release clause.

“So, I suspect it is something like 40 games. I suspect that at that sort of price they will only buy him if he’s an outstanding success.

“I mean, it’s an amazing deal anyway because to get the best part of £15million for one season of the player given what it costs and given his kind of patchy form, he scored 30 goals I think.

“So, he’s done okay, but I think you just see from the reaction of Chelsea fans that they’re surprised about the scale of the fee.”

Axel Disasi could quit Chelsea within days

In terms of another potential exit, recruitment expert Mick Brown told Football Insider Axel Disasi could complete a move away from Chelsea in the next few days.

A proposed move to Bournemouth fell through towards the end of the transfer window, while the 27-year-old is believed to have snubbed West Ham, Crystal Palace and Wolves.

However, Disasi could still join clubs in Saudi Arabia, Turkey or Mexico as those windows remain open.
