Stefan Borson suggests Newcastle compensation fee if Eddie Howe quits

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe could have compensation or notice clauses written into his contract regarding the England job.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider he expects the compensation fee to be around £5million if Howe were to leave St James’ Park.

The Newcastle boss has emerged as the early favourite to become the new England manager after Gareth Southgate stood down following his side’s European Championship final defeat against Spain.

In an interview with Sky Sports on 20 July, Howe revealed his commitment to the north-east giants is “unwavering”, but he admitted new boundaries need to be set following the recent behind-the-scenes personnel changes.

The 46-year-old led Newcastle to a seventh-place finish last season after qualifying for the Champions League in the previous campaign.

Eddie Howe could have England clauses written into Newcastle contract

Borson believes it wouldn’t be surprise if Howe does have an England compensation clause written into his contract after previously being linked with the job.

“Part of it could depend on what Howe’s contract says,” Borson told Football Insider.

“It would’nt be a massive surprise for there to be quite a specific clause in respect of the England job.

“Howe has been linked to the England job before.

“It’s not impossible there is an England compensation or notice clause. We will have to wait and see.

“If there was a clause that’s £10million, £15million or £20million, I think England would not be paying it and it would rule him out of the job if that was the case.

“I suspect they will end up with somewhere around £5million compensation if he does move.”
