Stefan Borson ‘surprised’ by Rangers takeover latest

Rangers have enjoyed an incredible past few days on the back of what has largely been a disappointing campaign at Ibrox.

The Glasgow giants beat Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce on penalties on Thursday (13 March) to progress through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

They headed into the Old Firm derby against Celtic on Sunday (16 March) 16 points behind their fierce rivals in the Scottish Premiership table, but a late Hamza Igamane strike secured a 3-2 victory for his side at Celtic Park.

The 49ers Enterprises-backed takeover of Rangers appears to be progressing following widespread reports claiming a deal has now been agreed in principle.

The US consortium, which includes Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe and health insurance tycoon Andrew Cavenagh, is looking to secure a majority takeover and wants control of the Ibrox boardroom by buying at least 51 per cent of the club’s shares.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider he is “surprised” there hasn’t been an official announcement from Rangers confirming the takeover.

Rangers Review reported on 12 March the key parties involved have received the first tranche of the legal paperwork required to complete the deal.

Rangers to make takeover announcement after Ibrox noise

Borson insisted there has been too much noise around the takeover deal for it to not be true despite Rangers so far deciding not to confirm the news.

He told Football Insider: “I’m still surprised that there hasn’t been an announcement under the takeover code, but I’m not really sure why that is.

“It did look like they needed to do that, but obviously they don’t.

“It would be easier if they did because then we’d have more specific confirmation.

“I think there’s just too much noise for it not to be true, so I think we just sit tight because it must be coming.

“It feels like it would be a pretty important development for Rangers.”

Rangers to profit from Leeds United partnership

Former Aberdeen CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider Rangers will profit from a partnership with Leeds if the takeover deal goes through.

Daniel Farke’s side are currently top of the English Championship table on goal difference as they go in pursuit of a return to the Premier League.

Hibernian and Hearts have both seen investment and new partnerships with the owners of Bournemouth and Brighton respectively in recent months.
