Stefan Borson: This is how much Man City will accept for Jack Grealish after ‘very bad’ Everton news

Everton have a decision to make over whether to sign Jack Grealish on a permanent deal from Manchester City this summer.

Grealish joined Everton on a season-long loan deal in a bid to play more first-team football.

The deal includes the option for David Moyes’s side to buy the 30-year-old, who is believed to be on around £300,000 a week, for £50million this summer.

However, Everton revealed last week Grealish would require surgery after sustaining a break in his foot.

The winger confirmed on Monday (9 February) he’s now had an operation, bringing his campaign to a premature end.

Could Jack Grealish return to Man City after Everton loan?

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Grealish’s injury is “very bad news” for the player and Everton

It is understood Everton are paying £225k a week of Grealish’s wages, with Moyes’s side unable to cut his loan short despite his injury.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “It’s very bad news for the player. It’s very bad news for Everton.

“It’s obviously not good news for City, although I suspect it won’t change much about what happens next season. He was never coming back to City.

“I guess if there’s a new manager it was possible, but let’s assume that he’s not coming back to City.”

Grealish registered two goals and six assists in 22 appearances for Everton before picking up his injury, having previously struggled for minutes under Pep Guardiola last season.

Why Everton are well placed to agree cut-price Grealish deal

There is still an expectation Everton will sign Grealish permanently this summer, but there will have to be some negotiation with Man City around his fee.

Borson revealed the Manchester giants would likely accept around £12-15m for the England international.

“His fee was never going to be the fee that’s in the option agreement from Everton,” said Borson.

“It was never going to be £50m, everybody knows that. He’s probably available for whatever his book value is now at the end of the season.

“I don’t know, maybe £12-15m, and I think probably somebody will buy him for that price. But it’s not that straightforward because his wages are huge.”

Grealish’s contract at the Etihad Stadium expires in June 2027, having signed a six-year contract when he arrived from Aston Villa for £100m in the summer of 2021.
