Stefan Borson: This is the most likely scenario for Vinicius Junior after Man City swoop

Manchester City are one of multiple clubs to have been linked with Vinicius Junior after a situation has emerged at Real Madrid.

During Real Madrid‘s 2-1 victory over Barcelona on 26 October, the Brazil international ranted: “I’m going to leave this team”, as he was left fuming with Xabi Alonso’s decision to substitute him.

It is understood Man City are joined in their interest of Vinicius by Manchester United and Liverpool.

Reports have claimed the 25-year-old no longer feels untouchable at the Bernabeu and could look to push for a move to a club where he feels more valued.

It is believed Real Madrid have been preparing to lose Vinicius, but it would take a significant fee for the Spanish giants to cash in on the winger.

Man City could afford Vinicius Junior deal

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Vinicius is likely to remain at Real Madrid despite Premier League clubs being able to afford his signature.

The Brazilian has failed to complete 90 minutes in 11 of his 14 appearances across all competitions this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “Is there a scenario where the teams could construct a contract that competed with the contracts at Real Madrid?

“The answer would be yes for the usual suspects. The top four or five clubs. I wouldn’t probably include Spurs in that, but the rest could construct a very rich contract if they really wanted a player.

“But I think it’s just extremely unlikely, just because of the scale of that sort of deal.”

Football Insider revealed on Monday (3 November) Vinicius is having showdown talks with Real Madrid about his position at the Bernabeu.

Premier League clubs challenging rules after transfer concerns

Borson believes the potential hurdles around signing a player like Vinicius is why Premier League clubs are challenging the new anchoring rules coming into force.

“Obviously, I’ve said it’s doable for all those teams,” said Borson.

“This will be one of the arguments that the clubs will be running in respect to something like anchoring.

“This sort of deal is the one that kind of puts you offside if you’re a Premier League club because on its own it can be worth £50m a year, maybe more. No club can easily deal with £50m a year of additional salary cost.

“Then on top of that, there’s amortisation depending on what the transfer fee is. So, I think theoretically yes, in practice probably no.

“I suspect he’ll stay at Real Madrid, and there’s nothing to see here. But theoretically, of course, the Premier League clubs are some of the richest in the world.”

Vinicius has registered five goals and four assists in his 14 appearances for Real Madrid this season.
