Stefan Borson: This is who Man City could sell instead of Omar Marmoush after Tottenham swoop

Omar Marmoush has been linked with a move to Tottenham after falling out of favour at Manchester City.

Marmoush is currently at the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt, but he’s started just four games across all competitions for Man City this season.

Tottenham are considering making a move to sign Marmoush as Thomas Frank looks to add more firepower to his attacking options.

However, it is understood Marmoush wants to stay at Man City and fight for his place in Pep Guardiola’s side.

Erling Haaland issue emerges amid Omar Marmoush sale plan

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider selling Marmoush would leave the 10-time English champions “extremely vulnerable” if Erling Haaland were to pick up an injury.

Man City signed Marmoush for an initial £59million from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “I mean, it’s questionable whether Marmoush has worked out. He’s not played very much this season, so you would say that’s been the downside.

“He played a lot last season, contributed a lot to the recovery of the squad and the team and the qualification for the Champions League, which in itself is huge.

“I doubt City are in a great rush to sell Marmoush. I think he offers them something that the other players don’t, especially if Haaland was to get an injury. Selling Marmoush now would make them extremely vulnerable to the Haaland situation.

“He’s away at the African nations anyway. I haven’t watched it closely, but you would expect Egypt to go very close.”

Why Man City could sell Savinho instead of Marmoush

Borson suggested Man City could look to sell Savinho instead of Marmoush.

“I think I’d be surprised with Marmoush leaving,” said Borson.

“I’d be less surprised if Savinho went, but I think Savinho got quite a nasty injury in the Sunderland game. So again, he’s probably not going to be able to move. January is difficult.

“I think City will look if they can to try and get a couple of players out, just because the squad’s getting big. Spurs are one of few teams that could pay City back the let’s say £60m City paid for Marmoush. I think it might be a decent signing for Spurs.”

Savinho almost joined Tottenham in the summer transfer window before eventually agreeing a new deal at the Etihad.
