Stephen McPhail has stated that Leeds have a chance of securing second spot this season in their race for promotion to the Premier League.
The former Whites midfielder praised the work that has been done at the Championship side and hailed the “brilliant atmosphere” at Elland Road.
At this moment in time, Garry Monk has led his team to fifth in the table, seven points behind the automatic places and the same amount of points ahead of seventh-placed Norwich.
Former Swansea boss Monk took charge of the Whites in the summer and he has changed the fortunes around at the club.
He has grown belief that there is a possibility that Leeds can end their 13-year wait of returning to the top flight.
Former Republic of Ireland international McPhail provided his thoughts on the club’s current situation and what they can achieve in the near future.
“Massive praise for how everyone is pushing together and the fans are making a brilliant atmosphere at Elland Road,” McPhail told Radio Yorkshire, as posted on their official Youtube account.
“Hopefully that continues over the next couple of months and they can sneak into that playoff position and maybe nick that second spot.”
Compared to some of his Championship counterparts, Monk has not spent a considerable amount of money on his squad.
Instead, the highly-rated coach has brought through young academy players such as midfield duo Ronaldo Vieira and Kalvin Phillips.
They have been an integral part to the club’s success this term and the impressive wins they have picked up during this campaign.
The Yorkshire club have beaten the likes of Norwich, Aston Villa and Derby as they face Cardiff at the weekend in front of their own supporters.
In other Leeds news, a Sky Sports pundit has delivered his verdict on the Whites clash with Cardiff.
