'No chance' – Bruce delivers season-ending verdict for Aston Villa enforcer

Steve Bruce has admitted that Manchester United loanee Axel Tuanzebe will not only miss the weekend’s visit to Ipswich Town in the Championship on Saturday but the remainder of the season too.

The manager’s news all but ends any hopes that the 20-year-old would have had of playing in the play-offs with the club still holding a chance of making it into the Premier League.

Tuanzebe had made a total of one minute of action for the Red Devils before his switch to Villa Park in the January transfer window on a six-month loan deal.

But due to injuries, the centre-back has been limited to game time with the Claret and Blues, bagging just five appearances in total for Bruce’s side.

As quoted in the Birmingham Mail the Villa boss delivered his update on the player: “Axel (Tuanzebe) has got no chance and we’ll be lucky if he played again this season with the ankle injury he’s got.”

Villa might have John Terry back for the match so the 20-year-old’s absence won’t be a particularly big loss. Tuanzebe’s temporary switch hasn’t been a complete waste of time but has verged on that. The 20-year-old is unlikely to have learnt very much about himself as a player after his stint at Villa Park. But based on that, Villa might be keen on getting him back on another loan for the start of next season, whether in the Championship or Premier League, so we can see what he is capable of producing on the field of play.
