Steve Bruce delivers pessimistic verdict on Aston Villa clash
By Amir Mir
Steve Bruce has stated that it will be “very difficult” for Aston Villa after they were drawn up against Tottenham in the third round of the FA Cup.
The Championship side will travel to the Premier League outfit on January 8 for a mouth-watering clash.
Villa have won the famous domestic trophy on seven occasions, while their opponents have lifted the cup eight times.
Aside from progressing through to the next round, Bruce’s side are aiming to gain promotion from the second-tier after their humiliating relegation last season.
Meanwhile, Spurs are hoping to lift the Premier League trophy as they currently sit just outside of the top four.

Ahead of Villa’s clash with Wigan on Saturday afternoon, Bruce was asked to give his thoughts on the FA Cup draw.
“Well we couldn’t have picked one of the more difficult ones, could we?” said Bruce in his Friday press conference, as posted by the club’s official Facebook page. “When I looked at that draw and I thought, has anyone got a more difficult draw then that?
“It’s a very difficult draw, but one we will look forward to, it is a great cup tie.”
Villa reached the final of the English domestic trophy in 2015, when then claret and blue boss Tim Sherwood guided them to Wembley.
However, their joy of reaching the final was short lived as they were thumped 4-0 by Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side defeated their FA Cup opponents on two occasions last season in the Premier League, including a comfortable 3-1 victory at White Hart Lane.
Since then Villa have been relegated into the Championship and they are currently six points off a play-off spot.
They have enjoyed a small revival under Bruce, with the promotion expert guiding them to four wins following his appointment in mid-October.
In other Aston Villa news, this senior ace returns for the Wigan clash on Saturday, but this duo miss out.
