Steve Nicol destroys Liverpool, shares what is rotten

By Danny Wright

Steve Nicol has launched a scathing attack on Liverpool for their dismal performance against Leicester on Monday.

The 55-year-old was livid with his former side’s display against a team that were without a manager and without a league win since New Year’s Eve.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were 3-0 down at one stage before Philippe Coutinho scored a consolation goal to soften the blow on what was already an embarrassing performance.

Nicol called into question the squad’s ambition to qualify for the Champions League this season and labelled their entire performance as ‘rotten’.

“Liverpool haven’t been able to get up to play against anybody in the bottom half of the table pretty much all season,” he said to ESPN FC.

“What we’re seeing is a Liverpool side that is either feast or famine. They’re either fantastic or they’re just plain rotten.

“And today they were just plain rotten.

“Did Liverpool actually realise they’ve got a chance of finishing in the top four? ”

Nicol made 468 appearances for the Reds and knows a thing or two about winning.

The former Scottish full-back lifted five First Division titles, three FA Cups and a European cup in his time on Merseyside.

After 13 years at Anfield, Nicol wound down his career with spells at Notts County, Sheffield Wednesday and West Bromwich Albion before retiring in 2001 at the age of 40.

He will now be hoping that Liverpool can quickly dust themselves down in time to face Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday.

The Reds currently occupy fifth place in the Premier League table but could soon find themselves sixth as Manchester United have a game in hand and sit just a point behind their rivals.
