Steve Nicol provides brutal verdict on Tottenham's future, urges player to leave like Bale

By Amir Mir

Steve Nicol has provided a brutal verdict on Tottenham’s future and stated that he cannot see the club “getting to the next level”.

Former Liverpool defender Nicol also urged Dele Alli to leave the club, like Gareth Bale did, if he wants to become “that superstar”.

Real Madrid attacker Bale joined the Spanish giants during the summer of 2013 when the La Liga club paid Spurs a then world record fee of £85millon for his services.

The Wales international has since gone on to lift two European Cups and is on course to win the Spanish title this term.

At this moment in time, Spurs are looking to catch leaders Chelsea in the Premier League title race, but Nicol believes they will only be challengers.

“They are a team that are not ready to win the Premier League title,” Nicol told ESPN. “If he [Alli] is going to be that superstar he may have to do what Gareth Bale did, go eventually. I see that happening [Alli leaving].

“I don’t see Spurs getting to the next level, I don’t see them spending the money to get to the next level and that means players like Dele Alli, they will go eventually.”

It has been another successful campaign for Tottenham this term as they are on course to finish in the Champions League places for a second season in a row.

Mauricio Pochettinio guided them to third last term and it is likely that they will clinch second spot this time round.

Attacking midfielder Alli has played a huge part in that success, scoring 16 Premier League goals, level with Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.

The England international, who scored against Watford last time out, will be looking to edge closer to the 20 goal mark when Spurs take on Bournemouth this Saturday.
