Steve Parish could ‘convince’ Oliver Glasner to agree new Crystal Palace contract
Steve Parish may be able to keep Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace if he backs the manager in the January transfer window.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who doesn’t believe the situation is as “dark as everybody’s making out.”
Glasner’s contract at Crystal Palace is set to expire at the end of the season, and the Austrian has made it clear he wants to be backed in the transfer market.
Crystal Palace are lining up a new manager in preparation for Glasner’s exit, but the Eagles still want the 51-year-old to remain at Selhurst Park.
Oliver Glasner would only leave Crystal Palace for ‘very top club’
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes backing Glasner in the transfer market is the “best hope” for the club if they want to keep him past this season.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness still thinks Parish needs to “convince” Glasner to stay at Crystal Palace.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’d hope Parish can resolve the issue, get some funding in for Glasner to strengthen, and try and not burn the bridges. I think that would be the best hope for Palace.
“And I think the Palace fans would obviously appreciate that as well. Glasner is going to be a sought-after commodity, there’s no doubt, but I think it would have to be a very top club for him to leave Palace, if they can offer him the right situation.
“So maybe it’s not quite so dark as everybody’s making out for Palace if Parish can actually get his talking into gear and convince him that there’s a future.”

Tottenham star could make Crystal Palace switch
Crystal Palace are interested in Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson, as the north London club will allow the Welshman to leave at the right price.
Spurs are prepared to cash in on Johnson, or let him leave on loan, with the 24-year-old having made just six Premier League starts this season.
Glasner has lost Ismaila Sarr to the African Cup of Nations, and could do with extra squad depth to aid a run in the Europa Conference League.
