Steven Davis backed to agree Rangers deal after source’s update – pundit
Frank McAvennie has insisted it is important for Steven Davis to remain at Rangers even if he’s no longer playing.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said Davis is an important personality to have around younger players.
On 18 February, sources told this site that the 38-year-old is “very likely” to be offered a new contract that could see him become a player-coach for the Glasgow giants.
The midfielder’s current deal at Ibrox expires at the end of the season.
Davis has been working towards completing his coaching badges since he was ruled out for the season back in December and could take up a similar role to Jermaine Defoe during his spell at the club.
Michael Beale has previously insisted that he wants to bring more Rangers-affiliated coaches into his setup.
When asked if Davis will be an important figure to keep around the club, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I do not think the youngsters nowadays can be bothered with the past and do not care who has done what.

“Davis is a player that I would look up to. He has been there, seen it and done it. I do not get why he would not want to keep him around the place in a coaching role.
“Defoe was great for [Alfredo] Morelos, just watching him every day. No matter what people say Davis is a great, he has been brilliant for years. If I was a Rangers players I would want to train with him every day and listen to him. He’s a huge figure for them.”
In other news, according to sources, Rangers are ready to accept Scott Wright offer as overhaul begins.
