Ex-midfielder Steven Pienaar has stated that he knows Jordan Pickford will be a success at Everton, while also claiming him to be on the best.

The South African 35-year-old was a key part for the Toffees across two spells for eight years before departing last summer.

He then agreed a one-year deal with Sunderland and David Moyes, which saw him work alongside Pickford for the Black Cats.

The 23-year-old became the Toffees’ first summer signing on Thursday, completing a club record £30million deal and Pienaar spoke highly of the young goalkeeper on his personal Twitter account after the announcement.

Pickford himself rose to fame in the last campaign after breaking into the Sunderland team following an injury to Vito Mannone.

He was hailed for his performances despite the north east club finishing bottom of the Premier League table and he ended the season playing 29 times in the English top-flight, conceding 50 times while keeping just four clean sheets.

Everton, meanwhile had some trouble in the goalkeeping department last summer with neither of Maarten Stekelenburg or Joel Robles being able to hold the position.

They will now be hoping that Pickford, who agreed a five-year deal can cement the position as his own in the future.

In other Everton news, this £40million-valued Premier League playmaker is still in Ronald Koeman’s sights.
