'Awful' - BBC pundit tears into Rangers recruitment under Caixinha, delivers verdict on Murty buys

BBC Scotland pundit Steven Thompson believes Graeme Murty has got his transfer business right after an “awful” transfer window under Pedro Caixinha.
Murty has signed Jamie Murphy, Sean Goss, Jason Cummings and Russell Martin while Carlos Pena has left the club to return to Mexico with Caixinha at Cruz Azul.
Murty and director of football Mark Allen have had their first window together in charge of the club’s recruitment and have left everyone impressed with their signings.
Thompson believes the Gers still need to move a few players on this month but admits the Gers have a stronger squad to choose from in the second half of the season.
“There’s still quite a few who need to go, but they definitely have a better squad to choose from”, Thompson said on BBC Sportscene Extra on Facebook Live.
“I like the business that has been done by Rangers in the window. They’ve brought in quality and players that know the script, whereas under Caixinha in the summer the recruitment was awful.
“Murty, I feel, has got this right.
“I am a big admirer of Jamie Murphy and they’ve got players to come back from injury as well, you look at [Graham] Dorrans coming back, [Lee] Wallace maybe coming back, [Kenny] Miller coming back – there’s going to be competition for places which is always positive.”
The Gers return to action after the winter break on Wednesday night when they welcome Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen to Ibrox – after the weather-enforced postponement of Sunday’s Scottish Cup clash with Highland League minnows Fraserburgh.
A win for the Light Blues would see them leapfrog McInnes’ side into second-place in the Scottish Premiership.
With another ten days left in the transfer window, Rangers could still be busy in the transfer window with more players expected to be coming and going before the end of the month.
In other Rangers news, there have been discussions held about the Gers’ hunt to sign this international playmaker from the Premier League.
