Stoke City open talks to sign Fulham’s Jay Stansfield – sources

Stoke City have opened talks to sign Fulham striker Jay Stansfield, sources have told Football Insider.

Birmingham City have cooled their interest in the 21-year-old after holding discussions with the Premier League club earlier in the transfer window.

Fulham would be open to the sale of youth product Stansfield before the August 30th transfer deadline day.

Stansfield has established himself as a solid Championship goalscorer after his 12-goal season on loan with relegated Birmingham from Fulham last term.

Jay Stansfield wanted by Stoke City

Stoke are aiming to bolster their attack in the transfer market this summer, and Fulham’s Jay Stansfield would be a fantastic addition to Steve Schumacher’s forward line.

The club have already allowed Tyrese Campbell and Wesley to leave this transfer window but have added Sam Gallagher from Blackburn.

Schumacher’s men were the Championship’s sixth-lowest scorers in 2023/24, and their highest-scoring centre-forwards in the league were Ryan Mmaee and Campbell with just three goals each.

Stansfield was a rare shining light in Birmingham’s abysmal season with 13 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions, including the opener in their 2-1 win over Stoke in January.
