Stoke City, West Brom and Cardiff City race to sign Stelios Andreou – sources

Stoke City, West Brom and Cardiff City are eyeing moves to sign Cyprus international defender Stelios Andreou, sources have told Football Insider.

The Charleroi centre-back has impressed for both club and country over the last couple of seasons, attracting interest from multiple Championship clubs.

The 22-year-old, who can play on either side of central defence, could be available for as little as £1.25million this summer.

With two years left on his current contract with the Belgian Pro League club, they are considering cashing in now before his price dips.

Andreou moved to Chareroi from Cypriot side Olympiakos Nicosia in 2021, and has spent three years developing his game in the Belgian top flight.

During that time, he has made 88 appearances and established himself as a key part of the first team under Rik De Mil and made steady improvements.

Last season, the centre-back featured 35 times across all competitions as his side narrowly avoided relegation from the Pro League via the playoffs.

He also played 90 minutes as Charleroi lost 1-0 to Antwerp in their opening game of the new season.

Andreou is predominantly right-footed, but his ability to play on either side of a centre-back partnership has made him a sought-after commodity.

Now, Championship outfits think he could be ready for the move over to England and are monitoring his situation with a possible move in mind before the window closes on 31 August.

West Brom are looking to make the playoffs again this season in their hunt for promotion, while both Stoke and Cardiff have targeted Andreou to help improve on mid-table finishes last time out.

All three Championship clubs view the defender as an option to bolster their ranks, with the season set to start on 9 August.
