PL club makes approach for Tottenham 2016 summer signing - Sky

By Danny Wright

Stoke have approached Tottenham with an enquiry for goal-shy striker Vincent Janssen, according to a report.

Sky Sports claimed in their live transfer blog on Tuesday [09:54am] that Spurs have been contacted by their Premier League rivals who have been one of the least active teams in the transfer window this summer.

Janssen, 23, signed for Tottenham in the summer of 2016 but has failed to reach expectations while playing in the shadow of England international Harry Kane.

The Daily Mail has previously reported that West Brom are also interested in the formerAZ Alkmaar forward, who Tottenham are ready to consider the sale of after a poor debut year in north London.

Across all competitions, the 13-times Netherlands international scored just six goals in 38 appearances last term, however he was only named to start in the Premier League on seven occasions.

Tottenham have no other traditional striker in their first-team squad to serve as Kane’s understudy as Mauricio Pochettino is yet to complete the signing of a single player this summer.

Football Insider Verdict

Tottenham have had a very poor summer and they should really be looking to sign players instead of selling them. Although Janssen had a poor debut season in north London, he deserves a second chance to show that he is more than a capable back-up option to Kane. The Dutchman’s goal scoring doesn’t look that great simply because most of his appearances have been off the bench. If he gets the chance to start at Stoke, Spurs could soon live to regret it, especially if he manages to get around 15 goals at the Bet365 Stadium. Heung-min Son can be used as a striker but he is better served on the wing, so if Janssen does go, Pochettino and Daniel Levy must replace him.

In other Tottenham news, Daniel Levy has taken the decision to pull the plug on this transfer after an agreement in principle was made.
