‘Strange’ – Exclusive: Pundit reacts to spotting Tottenham star training by himself

Paul Robinson admits he is surprised that Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has left Danny Rose out of the club’s last two matchday squads.

The former Spurs and England shot-stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says the left-back has found himself in a “strange” situation recently.

Having watched the Lilywhites’ 2-0 defeat to Chelsea, during which the left-back played 16 minutes as a substitute, Robinson revealed that Rose trained separately from the rest of the squad during the post-match running.

He says he would like to see the 29-year-old handed much more game time by Mourinho, not least because the Portuguese boss is lacking in natural left-back options.

“Danny Rose wasn’t even in the squad (v Brighton or Norwich), which is strange,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“I was at the game against Chelsea – Danny Rose came on as a sub – and after the game all the players from Spurs who didn’t play and the substitutes came out and did a little bit of extra running.

“Danny Rose came out on his own, took himself over to the other side of the stadium and did his own running in his own time.

“He wasn’t involved in the squad which for me was a surprise because he’s a left-back for the national team with Ben Chilwell, he plays for England but he can’t get into the Spurs team when they haven’t got a natural left-back. For me, he should be getting more game time.”

Rose has played just twice in the club’s last 10 Premier League fixtures, with Jan Vertonghen and Ryan Sessegnon both filling in on the left-hand side.

He was more regularly used in the Champions League by Mourinho, playing the full 90 minutes against Red Star, Olympiakos and Bayern Munich.

In other Tottenham news, Robinson suggests that one senior player is “not enjoying” his role under Mourinho.
