‘It is strange’ – John Terry delivers honest verdict on Aston Villa switch

By Danny Wright

John Terry has admitted that it is a strange feeling for him to pull on the shirt of another club after sealing his move to Aston Villa on Monday.

The 36-year-old spent over two decades with Chelsea, winning a vast array of silverware.

But after he failed to earn a new deal at Stamford Bridge, the former England international has been on the look out for new ventures and has penned a one-year deal with Championship outfit Aston Villa.

When asked about the change of surroundings, Terry said in a video on Villa’s official YouTube account: “It is strange. But listen, I’m signing for a new club.

“I’ve had 22 great years at Chelsea. As I’ve said before, it’s time for a change for me, I’ve had many great memories at Chelsea but I’m here to be part of a squad that can potentially go up this season with the ambition the same as mine – to compete at the very top.”

Terry becomes Steve Bruce’s first signing of the summer as the West Midlands outfit look to return to the Premier League following a dismal campaign in the second-tier last time out.

The Villains finished 13th in the Championship after at one stage looking as though they were on the verge of another relegation scrap.

Terry comes to Villa in the mindset that they can secure promotion this season, and the bookmakers certainly seem to agree too as SkyBet have Bruce’s men priced at 2/1 joint favourites with Middlesbrough to go up.

The Chelsea icon made just 14 appearances across all competitions last season under the charge of Antonio Conte, scoring one goal in a 4-3 win over Watford in his penultimate appearance.
