'Strange signing' - Exclusive: Bent has big doubts over big-money deal agreed at Leeds
Darren Bent has revealed his doubts over whether Leeds United loanee Jean-Kevin Augustin is good enough to play in the Premier League next season.
The former Tottenham and Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists the 22-year-old’s lack of game time means no one knows if he has what it takes to be a success under Marcelo Bielsa.
As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, Leeds have a deal in place to sign the Frenchman for £18million if they are promoted, having signed him on loan from RB Leipzig in January.
However, with the season postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Bent admits it could throw the striker’s future at Elland Road in doubt.
Bent told Football Insider: “It’s random, I thought it was a strange signing anyway.
“We get to this situation and we haven’t seen much of him, while Leeds are going on really, really well. I’m not quite sure how it’s going to work.

“Even if they do get promoted and the season plays out, we’re not sure he’s good enough yet, he’s not shown us much this season so it’s a bit of a difficult one.
“He showed good form before he got to Leeds and I did think he was a very good signing but Bielsa goes and signs another striker and doesn’t play him. It doesn’t really surprise me with Bielsa!”
Augustin has managed to play just 48 minutes of football since his move to Yorkshire, with three substitute appearances under his belt.
Bielsa has kept faith with Patrick Bamford throughout the season, the former Middlesbrough man forcing former loanee Eddie Nketiah to play second fiddle as well.
In other Leeds United news, Danny Mills is expecting the club to sign off on five short-term deals after a major update.
