Strasbourg fans rage at Chelsea ‘cowards’ as ‘sickening’ Liam Rosenior announcement arrives
Chelsea have confirmed the appointment of Liam Rosenior, in a move that has left their sister club Strasbourg in the lurch.
Enzo Maresca parted ways with Chelsea last week, after a fall-out between the head coach and the board.
Chelsea instantly looked to appoint Rosenior, with owners BlueCo having had a role in appointing the 41-year-old to Strasbourg.
But little attention has been paid to the Ligue 1 club themselves, who had been enjoying a strong season under the Englishman’s guidance.
Chelsea have taken full advantage of the multi-club model since purchasing Strasbourg in 2023, sending several players on loan there every summer.
Strasbourg fans incensed be latest Chelsea developments
Strasbourg fans have already voiced their disapproval of BlueCo on several occasions.
While the new owners’ arrivals have undoubtedly brought progress, there is a certain sense that the French club will always be seen as a feeder club to Chelsea.
They cannot grow attached to their best players because, if they are good enough, the Blues will take them, and they will be handed several loans every season, each of which they know they cannot make permanent.
In this case, it is their manager who has been taken away. Strasbourg topped the Conference League group stage, and sit in a strong seventh in Ligue 1.
But they now face the uncertainty of a completely new head coach, with that side of the situation undoubtedly having carried little weight in BlueCo’s minds.
Strasbourg fans reacted on social media following the announcement, and one said: “You are cowards, and you dare continue to churn out press releases to us about ‘the project.’
“To [Marc] Keller and his local team: resign now, show a minimum of honour in the humiliation that you are suffering, and that YOU have imposed on us.”
Others shared a similar sentiment, with one putting it in simple terms when he said that Strasbourg is “nothing but Chelsea’s slave club.“
Another fan said: “Sickening declarations instead of keeping a low profile, the disrespect right to the bitter end!”
Other Strasbourg supporters simply replied with clown emojis and pictures, all bearing the same phrase: “BlueCo Out!“
When will Liam Rosenior take charge of his first Chelsea match?
Calum McFarlane took interim charge of the squad as they took on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Given the events of the past few days, the Blues were not expected to walk away with anything.
But Enzo Fernandez‘s stoppage-time equaliser saw Chelsea steal a point, and prove to their next manager that they are certainly capable of competition.
Rosenior likely watched that game, and he will watch Wednesday’s trip to Fulham from the stands as well as McFarlane takes charge of one more game.
When Chelsea play Charlton in the FA Cup on Saturday, Rosenior will be in the dugout.
