Exclusive: Burnley make move to sign striker who snubbed Man City deal

Burnley have made a move to sign highly-rated Swedish striker Joel Mumbongo, Football Insider understands.
Mumbongo, 20, is currently plying his trade in Italy with Verona, but he could be available on a free transfer this summer.
A Burnley source has told Football Insider that the club have invited Mumbongo for a trial so that they can have a look at him at close quarters during pre-season training.
The speedy forward has represented Sweden from Under-17 up to Under-19 level and, if he impresses during his stint at Burnley, they will make him an offer to join them this summer.
Mumbongo has been tipped for a bright future for some time and has undergone trials at Manchester City and Everton in the past, as well as attracting interest from Wolves.

He opted to snub an offer from Premier League champions City to stay in Sweden to finish his studies at the time.
Mumbongo has scored prolifically at youth-team level in his homeland and is regarded as a player capable of making the step up to full international honours.
Burnley have been alerted to Mumbongo’s potential and they see him as a star in the making who they can develop into a first-team player.
