Rangers are not expected to make a move for released West Brom defender Gareth McAuley, according to a club insider.
The Four Lads Had A Dream blog, which has a stellar track record in Gers transfer stories, have claimed on Twitter that any stories linking the 38-year-old with a move to Ibrox have been ‘strongly denied’ by the club.
However, they did add the caveat that the Gers also denied they were interested in Jon Flanagan, who recently completed a move to Ibrox.
It’s being strongly denied by club & in Spain by management
I’m not sure to be honest, rumours are strong & club also denied Flanagan

McAuley has been linked with a move to the Gers in recent weeks, with the Daily Record reporting Gers interest in the Northern Irish international.
Football Insider verdict
It would be a bit of a shock if Steven Gerrard decided to swoop for Gareth McAuley in all honestly. Perhaps a few weeks ago before the Gers made any centre-half additions the move would have made sense. But since then the Gers have signed the centre-back duo of Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic, and the likes of Fabio Cardoso and Bruno Alves are still at the club. Perhaps if Gerrard and Mark Allen manged to get the likes of Alves and Cardoso off the books at Ibrox then a move for the veteran McAauley would make some sense. But with the Gers now having so many centre-backs at the club, it would seem that at this moment in time McAuley is not needed. He would get very little game time and is better off moving to a club where he could get some regular football in what looks to be the last few seasons of his career in the game.
