‘Stunk the place out’, ‘Worrying’ – Liverpool fans hammer Cody Gakpo after latest display

Liverpool fans were far from impressed with Cody Gakpo after he “stunk the place out” against Union SG on Thursday (14 December).

The Reds suffered a shock 2-1 defeat against the Belgium outfit with a heavily rotated starting XI, but qualification to the knockout rounds as group leaders had already been achieved.

Union SG took the lead after 32 minutes when Liverpool’s inexperienced defence allowed Mohammed Amoura through on-goal and around Caoimhin Kelleher.

Jarrel Quansah’s powerful equaliser got his side level for just four minutes as Cameron Puertas’ strike proved to be the match-winner, but many fans had their eyes on Gakpo who struggled to have an impact on the game.

The Dutchman managed just one shot, 19 completed passes, and no successful dribbles and was fortunate not to be hauled off by Jurgen Klopp.

Fans have taken to social media to berate the 24-year-old, and some are starting to worry that he may not be the answer for Liverpool’s attack.

This fan was furious that Klopp opted to keep him on the pitch.

This supporter simply dubbed his performance as “shocking”.

One supporter was worried about the lack of impact found from Gakpo’s movement and link-up play with his fellow teammates.

One fan slammed the former PSV Eindhoven man as “terrible”.

One supporter likely struggled to remember seeing the £45milion man take a touch at all after his “anonymous” outing.

One fan fumed at the whole team performance but singled out Gakpo and some other players for causing a real stink in Belgium.

Another supporter felt that Liverpool would have been equally effective, or ineffective, even if Gakpo was not on the field.

One fan shared his frustration that Gakpo is not a consistent threat for Liverpool.
