Aberdeen star Kenny McLean has blasted team-mate Ryan Christie after the on-loan Celtic star was sent-off at Ibrox on Wednesday, ruling him out of Sunday’s clash with Rangers at Pittodrie.
Christie picked up two unnecessary bookings in the 3-0 defeat at the hands of Graeme Murty’s side allowing the ‘Gers to close to within three points in the league table.
Since moving to the Dons on loan in January, Christie has become one of the Dons’ best players and his absence will be a huge loss in the lunchtime meeting with the Glasgow giants.
McLean admitted Christie will be a miss but thinks Derek McInnes’ side have enough quality in reserve to step up and fill the gap.
“It’s a massive loss,” McLean said, as quoted by the Evening Express.
“Ryan had a couple of fouls before and he knows himself it was a bit of stupidity.
“It’s a massive loss for us, but we’ve got plenty of good players who can come in and step up.”
A win for the Gers would see them take second place in the league less than a week after looking at a potential 12-point deficit to the Pittodrie side.
With a new manager expected at Ibrox imminently, back-to-back wins over their nearest rivals would be a huge momentum boost for the Light Blues as they try and close the gap to champions Celtic.
Interim manager Graeme Murty is likely to be in the dugout for the last time as the Gers bring their search for Pedro Caixinha’s replacement to a close.
In the latest Rangers news, Murty has had his say on Wednesday’s game against the Dons.
