There is no place for Luis Suarez on the three-man Ballon d’Or shortlist announced on Monday afternoon.
Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona duo Lionel Messi and Neymar will battle it out for this year’s title.
Suarez has taken his game to a higher level since joining Barcelona from Liverpool and has had a sensational year, scoring in the Champions League final and forming one-third of the all-conquering front three at the Camp Nou.
Since signing for Barcelona in the summer of 2014, Suarez has played 54 Champions League and La Liga matches for the club, scoring 40 goals and supplying 27 assists.
However, the Uruguayan missed out in in the nominations in favour of Ronaldo, who has admitted that Messi is the hot favourite to win his fifth Ballon d’Or title.
Ronaldo has won the last two editions of the world’s best player but has fallen marginally short of those standards in 2015.
The winners will be announced at FIFA’s Ballon d’Or Gala in Zurich on January 11, with four other prizes also on offer.
