The midfield battle will no doubt define the upcoming Celtic and Rangers Scottish Cup semi-final clash at Hampden, and if the Hoops are to triumph they will need big performances from the midfield duo of Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham.
The dynamic duo were sensational in the Hoops’ recent 3-2 win over Rangers at Ibrox, with Brown turning in his usual all-action display and Ntcham deservedly winning man of the match honours after controlling the midfield with a sublime range of passing.
The most impressive thing about the duo’s performance, is that they managed to control the game despite the Hoops being reduced to 10 men for almost the entirety of the second-half after Jozo Simunovic’s dismissal.
Whilst Brown’s performance was expected, Ntcham perhaps surprised some with his performance, as he has been in and out of the team at times this season, but at Ibrox he showed that he was worth every penny of the £4.5million that the Hoops paid Manchester City for the 22-year-old in the summer.
Brendan Rodgers seems to have learned his lesson after dropping Ntcham from the starting line-up for the Old Firm derby in December which ended in a goalless draw.
The Hoops boss has now firmly established Brown and Ntcham as the key men in the middle of the park for the Bhoys, and if they are able to wrest control of the midfield it bodes well for more Old Firm glory for the Hoops.
In other Celtic news, the Hoops cannot afford to sell this player in the summer
